Every time I remember this true joke I'm moved to tears with laughter. My brother told us the story a long time ago and it goes like this:
As students at KCAST, Zaria, he had a friend who thought that they should have girlfriends in the school just like some other students. After all, the other guys were not better than them, he reasoned. My brother agreed.
So, one day, they decided to embark on the venture to actualise their dream. My brother's friend had an eye on one of the top class babes in the school. She was beautiful, arrogant and very popular.
My brother's friend dressed up very well for the occasion: he wore his best shirt, a tie, a hat and tucked in neatly, to boot, just like he had seen some musicians do. To cap it all, he held a small briefcase which he swung back and forth.
They headed for the girls' hostel, which was called, Angola. Luckily, on their way, just ahead of them was the girl and a couple of her friends heading towards the hostel. My brother and his friend quickened their steps to catch up with the girls. They turned a corner near the dining hall and briefly the boys lost sight of them. When they were about to turn the corner, my brother let his friend go ahead of him. On sighting the girls again, my brother raised his voice and shouted the girl's name, "Rakiya!", and immediately ducked back around the corner. Startled, the girls turned to see who called their friend. They only saw my brother's friend walking towards them, swinging the handbag back and forth. Angrily, the girl pointed her finger at him and said, in Hausa, "Kai!!! ka kiyaye ni!", meaning, hey, keep clear of me!
My brother didn't stop to see the embarrassment on his friend's face...😂😂😂
