REPORT ON MIPCOM 2017 ATTENDED BY A TEAM FROM THE NATIONAL BROADCASTING COMMISSION, NBC, OCTOBER 16-19,2017


PREAMBLE

MIPCOM is the world’s most established TV and digital content market. It is also the biggest gathering of the world’s most influential industry players in the entertainment industry which attracts top television executives and creative talents from over 100 countries who converge to forge early stage content development partnerships and seal international distribution deals for 4 days of meeting, screening and conference.

THE AIM OF NBC’S ATTENDANCE OF THE MARKET

As Nigeria’s Broadcast Regulatory Body, it has become customary and imperative for NBC to attend such an all-important market to facilitate and pave way for broadcast stations and other stakeholders in the industry in Nigeria to become exposed to the opportunities therein, thereby contributing in the development of the industry, particularly at this period of digitization.

This year, the Director General, NBC, Mallam Is’haq Modibbo Kawu, in the company of the Chairman, Senate Committee on Information, Sen. Suleiman Adokwe, and the Chairman, Adhoc Committee on Digitisation, Hon. Sunday Marshal Katung, attended the MIPCOM 2017 Conference at Pales de Festival.

Also in the Director General’s team, was the SA to the DG, Mr. Nurudeen Imam; Acting Director, Human Resources and Administration, NBC, Mr. Matthews Achara; Zonal Director, NBC Maiduguri zone, Malam Ahmed Abdulkadir; Head, Public Affairs, NBC, Mrs. Maimuna Jimada; and two other Public Affairs Officers from NBC, Folake Moses-Ikhile and Maureen Ebuwa.

To achieve this objective, NBC set up a pavilion at the venue of the event, Pales de Festival, Cannes, France, where visitors were attended to and given explanations to their enquiries.





DAY ONE

The event opened with the DG NBC, Mallam Is’haq Modibbo Kawu, welcoming some visitors and explaining to them about NBC and how it is facilitating the exposure of broadcast stations from Nigeria to the opportunities therein.

Many people visited NBC’s Pavilion and were attended to by staff of the commission on this day.

DAY TWO

On the second day, NBC organised Nigeria Pavilion Welcome Party which was well attended by attendees. The DG also addressed them.

DAY THREE

On the third day, NBC organised the Nigeria Pavilion Networking Party at another venue in the evening. It was also a forum where opportunities were provided for attendees to meet each other and thereby promoting mutual understanding, cooperation and possibly striking business deals.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, NBC’s attendance at MIPCOM 2017 can be said to be a huge success because it has achieved the main objective of its attendance at the event.
