In spite of the rot and sleeze of corruption we live in, there are still people who are honest and conduct their jobs honestly without seeking for nor taking gratification...not even a gift of appreciation after serving you.
I was highly impressed when I heard accounts from two people who benefitted from such honest service.
They told me how that organisation recovered money for them from people who duped them. Try as they might, the people flatly refused to accept even a token of appreciation from the people they assisted.
One was duped by an Immigration Officer who happened to be her cousin. He promised to secure a job for her son and in the process collected a lot of money from her. She had to sell a lot of things to get that money. The other was gypped by her friend and colleague.
That organization is the Katsina State Office of the Public Complaints Commission. Not that the officers are well off or even well paid. It's just a mindset and a sign of the good leadership in the organisation.
Not many people know nor are aware of the kind work they do.
Now, I don't know any of the officers who work in that office, but I was moved by the stories and I think they are worth sharing.
These people are, no doubt, unsung heroes and are worthy of emulation.
