Awesome! I just discovered this report card in my archives. It's for class 5, 3rd term, 1973, in a public primary school.
It was the last exam I took in primary school before proceeding to secondary school as I and a number of my mates were given a special promotion where we joined class 6 pupils and wrote the Common Entrance Examination. We passed, attended the interview and passed again before proceeding to secondary school, leaving behind our other mates.
What's striking about the report card is the headmaster's beautiful handwriting and his error free grammar in his comments:
"Ahmadu is a good scholar and can do better in his weak subjects if he works hard".
Compare these with the handwritings and grammar of the current primary school teachers...(sacked Kaduna teachers on my mind).
Also, see the quality of the printed report card, which carries the translation of every written word into Hausa, from English.
Then, I used to bear the name of my grandfather as my surname - all our family members used to bear the same surname. And also see the variation of the name I was using, "Ahmadu", rather than "Ahmed", which I now use. So, I used to be known as "Ahmadu Barau", rather than "Ahmed Abdulkadir", as I'm now known, with my father's name as my surname.
If I ever join politics, probably an opponent will sue me for using different names, as happened to one governor, recently.
